How to replace broken left hinge in HP Pavilion dv9000

In the following guide I explain how to replace the left hinge in a HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop.
Broken left hinge is a known issue with HP Pavilion dv9000/dv9100/dv9200/dv9400 series laptops. A while ago HP was fixing this issue at no charge under the service enhancement program. This program has expired on May 31, 2009 and now you are on your own.

I believe this guide will work with some other HP Pavilion laptops even though replacement part numbers can be different. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model number in the comments below.

Upgrading RAM in Toshiba Satellite M100 M105

In this guide I explain how to remove and upgrade memory in a Toshiba Satellite M100 or Satellite M105 laptop. I will upgrade it from 512MB (default size) to 2GB. This model has two RAM slots. One of the RAM slots can be easily accessed from the bottom but another one is hidden under the keyboard.

Let’s start with the hidden internal RAM slot. In order to access this slot we’ll have to remove the keyboard.

Make sure the computer is turned off and the battery is removed.

STEP 1.

Insert a small flat head screwdriver between the speaker cover and laptop base.

Lift up and remove the speaker cover.

How to disassemble HP 530

In this guide I will disassemble a HP 530 Notebook PC and remove the top cover assembly. I’m replacing the top cover because one of the touch pad buttons is broken. When you press on the button it feels loose and sometimes will not click. The button is a part of the top cover.

In order to replace it I will have to disassemble the whole computer. I’ll be removing all internal parts including hard drive, keyboard, motherboard, cooling fan and other key components.
