In this guide I show how to disassemble a Dell Inspiron 15 5577 gaming laptop (model P57F).
Quick access to the memory slots and dual storage drive support makes Inspiron 5577 an easily upgradable gaming machine.
Accessing RAM, HDD and SSD
Loosen one captive screw securing the bottom cover. The screw will stay attached to the base cover when it’s removed. Pry up and remove the base cover.
This particular laptop came with both storage drives missing but it’s easy to remove them. The M.2 SSD drive secured by one screw (yellow) and the 2.5″ hard drive secured by 4 screws.
This laptop supports up to 32GB dual-channel DDR4-2666 SODIMM memory. The M.2 SSD can be either SATA or PCIe NVMe (up to 512GB).
Remove five screws securing the battery and unplug the battery cable from the motherboard. Remove the battery.

Removing keyboard
There are five latches securing the keyboard to the top case.
Insert a thin metal case opener tool (or any other similar tool) between the keyboard and the top case. Push the latch inside the case.
With the latch pushed in, pry up the keyboard until it disengages from the latch.
Unlock all other latches the same way and separate the keyboard from the top case.
Move the keyboard towards the display.
Access and disconnect two keyboard cables from the motherboard. When you install the keyboard back in place, make sure the “UP” side of the cable is up.
Here’s how to disconnect the keyboard cables.
Lift up the locking tab to unlock the connector (red arrow). Lift up the cable and pull it out (yellow arrow).
Remove and replace the keyboard if necessary.
Removing palmrest assembly
Remove two screws securing the palmrest assembly. Disconnect the touchpad cable (yellow) and the power button board cable (green). Use the same technique as for disconnecting the keyboard cable.
Remove four screws securing the palmrest assembly on the bottom of the laptop.
Separate the palmrest assembly from the base. Try up the palmrest using the case opener tool.
Remove the palmrest assembly.
On the other side of the palmrest you can access the power button board which is easily removable.
Removing cooling fans
Both cooling fans located right under the palmrest.
Lift up the right fan and disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the right fan.
Right fan part number: 04X5CY
Lift up the left fan and disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the left fan.
Left fan part number: 0RJX6N
Removing DC power jack
Disconnect the DC power jack cable from the motherboard. The DC cable is routed in the guided path on the base assembly.
Un-route the DC jack cable.
Lift up the DC power jack and pull the cable through the opening. Remove the DC jack.
If you need to disassemble the laptop any further please follow this Dell Inspiron 15 7559 teardown guide. It’s an older model but has an identical body.
For the LCD screen removal check out how to take apart the display panel.
Dell Inspiron 15 5577 has a know hinge issue. If the display feels loose or started making clicking sound when moved, most likely the hinge started separating from the base. If that’s the case, the base has to be replaced.
Rhys
You can get away without having to replace the base (and they’re rarer than hen’s teeth already ..)
I stripped mine down, as per you other post: https://www.insidemylaptop.com/fixing-left-hinge-separation-on-dell-inspiron-15-7000/
Then I simply hot glued both hinges back in. I have no reason to strip it down past this point or remove the screen. It’s 4 years old (at 2022), if something else breaks then I will likely consider replacement based on performance or carry out the minor repair.
To carry out:
Build the hot glue up in the area the metal hinge lays flat against, around and inside the anchoring points – then put the hinges in place, apply firm pressure and hold tight until set (approx 4/5 mins). Let it sit with the screen angled slightly closed to keep pressure on the hinge while it cures fully for 15-20 mins. **NB**: If you need to open the lid, place one thumb on each hinge and open with your forehead – it feels awkward but you need to be careful not to break the base, it’s pretty flexible when not bolted to the other panels.
