How to disassemble HP Pavilion dv7t-3000

HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 disassembly

In this post I will show how to disassemble a HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 series notebook.

This guide should work for HP Pavilion dv7-2000 and dv7-3000 series too.

I’m taking it apart because the notebook gets very hot while running games and other multiple programs. It happens because the cooling module is clogged with dust and has to be cleaned up.

I will clean up the CPU heatsink and replace thermal grease on the CPU (processor) and GPU (video chip). This procedure requires complete disassembly.

Taking apart Asus K52F

I will go though the following disassembly steps:

STEP 1-4: Removing the bottom cover and accessing main internal components.
STEP 5-11: Remove the optical drive, hard drive and fan.
STEP 12-19: Disconnecting and removing the keyboard.

Replacing keyboard on MacBook Pro 13-inch (Late 2011)

In this guide I explain how to replace the keyboard on a MacBook Pro 13-inch (Late 2011).

According to Apple, the keyboard is part of the palmrest assembly and if the keyboard fails, the entire palmrest assembly has to be replaced.

This is not 100% correct.  Of course, you can buy a new palmrest/keyboard/trackpad assembly and replace the whole thing but it’s possible to replace just the keyboard itself.

In this post I will go though steps explaining how to fix a MacBook Pro after liquid spill.

Not all liquid spills can be repaired but if you do everything correctly there is a good chance to get your computer back to life.

In the following example I am working with a MacBook Pro 13-inch but all following steps will be the same for all MBPs.

VERY IMPORTANT: After you spilled something on your laptop turn it off right away. Do not try to turn it on! It has to be disassembled for liquid damage inspection.

Turning on MacBook Pro without power button

Sometimes, when you troubleshoot a MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air problem you need to turn it on without using the power button. Is it possible? Yes, it is!

In these laptops (unibody style) the power button is permanently attached to the keyboard. Basically, it’s a part of the keyboard as you can see on the following picture.

If the keyboard failed (let’s say you spilled liquid on it) and the power button stopped working there is a workaround for turning it on.

You cannot use this method to turn on your MBP on a daily basis but it is a good troubleshooting technique. It might help to figure our if the motherboard still works even though the computer doesn’t turn on when you push on the power button.

You can turn it on by shorting the power-on pads with a small flathead screwdriver for a couple of seconds. The power-on pads located on the motherboard. In order to access them you’ll have to remove the bottom cover and it’s very easy.

How to disassemble HP G72 and Compaq Presario CQ72

In the following guide I explain how to disassemble an HP G72.

This guid also works for Compaq Presario CQ72 models.

In this particular case I’m taking apart an HP G72-B57CL laptop.

I’ll go though the following major disassembly steps:

STEP 1-6: Removing the hard drive and optical drive. Accessing the CMOS battery, wireless card and memory modules.
STEP 7-15: Disconnecting and removing the keyboard.
STEP 16-20: Removing the top cover assembly.
STEP 21-26: Removing the motherboard.
STEP 27-30: Accessing the cooling fan and DC jack cable.

HP Pavilion dv6 models have different body styles and they have different disassembly procedures. The following guide will work for dv6-6000 series.
